The key gives a street directory and a listing for hotels, banks, theaters, railroads, churches and horse car routes. The wharfs on the East and Hudson Rivers are identified as to what line they belong to. Ferries and their routes are shown with a dotted line. The Brooklyn Bridge is simply identified as “Suspension Bridge” which aids with the approximate dating of the map and it is before it officially acquired its name. A small key gives the dimensions of the “East River Bridge” which again is before the official naming. Depths are given in the East River.
