Detailed sea chart of the strategically important islands of Saint Pierre and Miquelon, off the coast of Newfoundland. The islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon were of sufficient importance that they have been passed back and forth between the France and Britain on a number of occasions under multiple treaties.

Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703-1772) was one of the most important and proficient French cartographers of the eighteenth century. He was appointed the first Ingenieur Hydrographe de la Marine, and also the Official Hydrographer to the French King.
