Little is known about his early life but it is suspected that he grew up in or near Saratoga Springs, New York. It is known that he apprenticed to Pendleton brothers in Boston in the late 1820’s, early 30’s. By 1836 he was on his own and produced his first lithographed town view, Geneva. Between 1836 and 1850 he produced a total of eight folio views. With the exception of Geneva he composed, drew on stone, published and likely hand colored each of them. At some point after 1850 he joined the gold rush to California. He prints, their design and coloring are uniquely his own. A scarce view.
