A satirical British comment on the American colonies' reaction to the new tea-tax. Father Time projects a lantern image to four allegorical figures representing the continents. They see a tea pot exploding and a snake and a liberty cap flying. Behind the smoke and storm clouds are American troops charging the retreating British and beneath lies the British lion fast asleep. The vignettes at the base compare the American Revolution to Holland's auto da fe (1560) and Switzerland's William Tell (1296).
