  • DESCRIPTION: The top view is of "Exhausted miners cooling off and resting" and below is "Miners changing shift in the 1,600-foot level". Virginia City was settled in 1859 when the famous Comstock Lode was discovered. The Comstock yielded half of the silver output of the United States before being depleted in the mid 1880's. Virginia City lies just south of Reno, Nevada. See item #14665 for another scene of Nevada silver mining.
