  • DESCRIPTION: This map shows the area of Flushing that is around what is now the Murray Hill Station of the Long Island Railroad. When this map was published, Flushing was the sight of many nurseries. Some trees survive to this day, including the famous "weeping beech", a city landmark. Much of the property was owned by members of the Bowne and Parsons families. Samuel Bowne Parsons was a noted local nurseryman. One of his gardens is now the sight of Kissena Park. There are many interesting details here including the old Bowne House, built in 1661 and which still stands on the corner of what is now Bowne Street and 37th Avenue.
