A decorative map from Mitchell's "New General Atlas." This map shows an early and short lived configuration of the region. Originally called the Oregon Territory. In 1853 the Washington Territory was formed with both stretching well eastward. In 1863 a large Idaho Territory was formed when Congress passed the Organic Act. This configuration lasted approximately a year then was again broken up forming the familiar ā€œLā€ shaped Idaho and Montana Territory. Nicely embellished with a rose, flower and ivy vine border. A nice bright impression. From 1863 edition. Maps
