  • EDITION SIZE: Two sheets, each measures 19 3/4 x 46 1/2" (502 x 1182 mm).

  • DESCRIPTION: Plates 28 and 29 from Thomas Jefferys' "The American Atlas: or A Geographical Description of the Whole Continent of America..." The map, when joined together, centers on Laguna de Xarayes in what was then Peru and encompasses the whole of South America, including the Galapagos Islands. An inset appears in the upper right corner of “A Chart of Falkland’s Islands named by the French Malouine Islands, and Discovered by Hawkins, in the Year 1593.” A “Division of South America with a Summary Account of its Trade” appears in the lower left corner. The title cartouche in the lower right corner is elaborately engraved. The title continues: “from Mr. d’Anville with Several Improvements and Additions, and the Newest Discoveries.”
