  • DESCRIPTION: An illustrated portfolio of Rainer Maria Rilke book "The Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge." Lithographs and afterword by Ben Shahn, 24 original lithographs printed on Richard de Bas handmade paper, an unsigned head piece and 23 lithographs each individually signed by the artist, an edition of 950 copies. This is one of 200 deluxe copies. The colophon page is signed in brush by the artist and the poet w/edition number stamped in black and the orange-red chop, elephant folio, loose, as issued, in wrappers in vellum backed linen cloth folding case, original corrugated shipping carton. "Riner Maria Rilke/Ben Shahn" printed in gold on vellum spine.

  • ADDITIONAL INFO: Signed and inscribed "123/200."

  • CONDITION: Good condition. There is minor offset on the frontispiece, as the page was still wet when placed on top of the print, which applies to the entire edition. Occasional spotting on the verso of the vellum cover.
