DESCRIPTION: This impressive engraving is a wonderful example of Chatelain’s elegant plates. Included in the 1720 edition of Atlas Historique, published by Chatelain in Amsterdam, this large chart is the twenty-ninth plate in volume three. This decorative plate provides a detailed description of the infrastructure of the Venetian government. Ornamented with numerous vignettes illustrating sessions of parliament (including Doge's Palace), the plate includes a lengthy description of the organization of the state.
