This impressive engraving is a wonderful example of Chatelain’s elegant plates. Included in the 1720 edition of Atlas Historique, published by Chatelain in Amsterdam, this large chart is the eighth plate in volume three. This handsome plate is comprised of a large central vignette depicting a session of the English parliament. The Queen is seated at the back of the large hall with the government before her. The room is divided into different sections of nobility, all of whom are identified in a numbered key. The sheet is filled with a long explanative text as well as a detailed tabular key identifying the various people depicted in the images. This fine print is a wonderful example from Chatelain’s important text. Maps
