Charta ofver On St. Barthelemy. (St. Barth's)

 • ARTIST: Samuel Fahlberg

 • PUBLISHER: Published by Fredrik Akrel, Stockholm.

 • MEDIUM: Copper plate engraving,

 • EDITION SIZE: Image size 19 3/4 x 27 3/4" (50.2 x 70.5 cm) plus narrow margins.

 • DESCRIPTION: An outstanding large-scale map of the island of St. Bartholomew, which was originally controlled by the French. In 1784 it was ceded to Sweden and remained under Swedish control until 1877 when it again was taken over by the French. Fahlberg produced two focused maps of the island. The first had the same title as this map but was smaller in size, 13 x 16". It appeared in a promotional pamphlet for the island entitled "Beskrifning Om S. Barthelemy" (Stockholm, 1786). This map was apparently an updated revision of the earlier one. Shown on this detailed map are property divisions and a key listing the number of houses and inhabitants.
