DESCRIPTION: John Caspar Wild (c.1804-1846) was born in Zurich, Switzerland. He was living and working in Philadelphia in 1831, Cincinnati in 1835, and back in Philadelphia in 1838. He produced a group of twenty views of Philadelphia. The next year he moved to St. Louis, Missouri. He produced a remarkable body of work on the Mississippi city towns and a number of views of St. Louis. The quality of his lithographic views are stunning. Most are very rare.
