  • DESCRIPTION: From Charles Stedman's "The History of the Origin, Progress and Termination of the American War." The Second Battle of Saratoga ended Burgoyne's plan of northern conquest. It was a major turning point in the American Revolution, partly because it contributed to France's entry into the war as an American ally. This plan shows the British units camped on high ground just north of Fishkill. Hessian and Canadian troops are to the right. Gen. Gates' main army is south of the Fishkill. Col. Dan Morgan's famous riflemen are located just below the map title. To the far right is the bridge of boats constructed across the Hudson River by the British.
