  • DESCRIPTION: Shown is the first steam passenger train in America, which ran between Schenectady and Albany for the Mohawk & Hudson Railroad. The previous year the railroad had operated with horse-drawn cars. On the Dewitt Clinton's inaugural run in 1832, a crowd of people gathered; passengers were showered with sparks from the woodburning engine. This print is typical of Henry's work, which usually recalled the everyday life of early 19th-century America, especially regarding modern transportation.
