Copper engraved prints of birds of the Netherlands, when possible, depicted life size.

Many of the plates also show the nest & eggs with the bird in its natural environment. "Judging from the publication dates of the five parts (1770, 1789, 1797, 1809 and 1829), the volume took an extremely long time to produce. During Nozeman's lifetime, five or six plates appeared every year. Nozeman died before the second part was published. He was succeeded by his contemporary, the physician Martinus Houttuyn Sepp (1720-1798).

Given his numerous natural history publications and his well-stocked cabinet of curiosities, he too apparently had a greater interest in this pastime than in his actual profession." "Three generations of the Sepp family, publishers hailing from Germany, were involved in the work shown here, which was published over a period spanning almost sixty years."-Vitrine Library
