  • EDITION SIZE: Two-sheet map joined, image size 22 3/4 x 38 1/8" (57.8 x 96.6 cm).

  • DESCRIPTION: A scarce, well known oversize map of Asia, which reaches from Turkey and the Arabian peninsula east to Japan and New Guinea. Includes Persia, Tartary, India and China. Above Japan is the curious Land of Iesso, separated from Company's Land by the Straits of the Vries. Moll adds a legend explaining that it is not known whether Iesso is connected to continental Asia. The large title cartouche incorporates native figures and goods. Six insets fill the upper corners, including Hellespont, Bombay harbor, Chusan and Amoy (Xiamen, China).
