  • DESCRIPTION: Minnesota is shown after it achieved statehood in 1858, when it no longer encompassed much of present-day North and South Dakota. There are few towns in Dakota. The most prominent features there are the Missouri River with its adjacent forts and Gov. Stevens' proposed northern track for the first transcontinental railroad.
