Georges Louis Le Rouge

1722-1778

French military engineer, hydrographer and cartographer. He held the position of Ingénieur Géographe du Roi (Geographical Engineer) to King Louis XV. He was responsible for the French editions of many notable American maps, beginning in the 1740's, the most important collection was his Atlas Américain Septentrional (1778). With Benjamin Franklin he collaborated in a French edition of the Folger-Franklin hydrographic chart of the Gulf Stream.
