Manuel Robbe

1872-1936

Manuel Robbe was a Parisian painter and printmaker, best known for his color aquatints and women figures. He studied at the Academie Julian and the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and exhibited at various Salons in Paris. He utilized a variety of printmaking techniques including aquatint, sugar lift and "a la poupee". The latter is a method of printing in color in which each pigment is added to the same plate, instead of making a separate plate for every color. The process meant each impression tended to be different, either subtly or dramatically.
