Mark Freeman

1908-2003

Mark Freeman (1908-2003) was born in Zaleszczyki, Austria on September 27, 1908. He came to New York City in January 1923. New York City would remain his home for the remainder of his life. He studied at Columbia College, Sorbonne in Paris and the National Academy of Design. Originally studying architecture he began a long career as an artist in the 1930’s. He is noted as a chronicler of the growth of New York City and enjoyed walking the streets drawing directly on metal lithographic plates which he would then print in his studio.
