The Old Print Shop

D. Y. Cameron

1865-1945

David Young Cameron was a prolific Scottish etcher and painter. Born in Glasgow, he began his formal art studies at the Glasgow School of Art in the early 1880s before moving onto the Edinburgh School of Art in 1885. It was at the Edinburgh School that Cameron learned the art of etching, a medium to which he would become internationally known. He is considered a leading figure in the "etching revival" period from about 1890-1920 when the public rediscovered their love for etching and printmaking and caused a boom in the industry. Cameron had a particular love for landscapes and architectural scenery.
