John Trumbull (1750-1831), the son of a Congregational preacher from Watertown, Connecticut, attended Yale where he studied law. After passing the bar examination, Trumbull practiced law in the office of John Adams in Boston and he later went on to become a state attorney. In addition to the role of state attorney, Trumbull also became a member of the Connecticut Assembly, and a judge in the Superior Court. He is known for being one of the most recognized political satirists of his time for his works “The Progress of Dulness” and “M’Fingal.”Inscribed "Tisdale del. et Sc."
