DESCRIPTION: From Henry Stephen's "The Comic Natural History," in which Stephens caricatured prominent figures of the day, from entertainers to politicians. He also included "types" of people, ranging from the "Vampire," a sanctimonious religious moralist, to the "Wharf Rat." Lithography by (Louis) Rosenthal & (Peter) Kraemer. The Rosenthals, like other major lithographers in Philadelphia, experimented with chromolithography and won a prize for their work in this field at the 1851 exhibitiion at the Franklin Institute.
