  • DESCRIPTION: Dissected and mounted folding case map issued early in the Civil War..<br><br> A pasted-on label along the lowwr edge explains that the map is colored to show "free, or non-slaveholding states" (pink), ""border slave states" (yellow), and "seceded or confederate states" (green). The main map extends beyond the Mississippi River to include Dakota, Kansas, Indian Territory and most of Texas. At lower right is a large inset titled "Colton's Map of the United States Showing the Proposed Railroad Routes to the Pacific Ocean". Another depicts the southern part of Florida.<br><br>

  • ADDITIONAL INFO: This is one of the maps Colton supplied to English publishers to meet English interest in America during the war. Thus, the detached front cover bears the London imprint of G. F. Crutchley. Dissected into 32 pieces and mounted on original folding linen.

  • CONDITION: Good condition and color for a dissected map; some repairs at folds and tiny losses at intersections.
