  • DESCRIPTION: From, American Ornithology; or, The Natural History of the Birds of the United States: Published in London & Edinburgh 1832. Alexander Wilson learned much of birding by John Bartram at the 'Botanic Garden' in Philadelphia. With the assistance of Mr. Bartram, Wilson learned to draw, identify and document different bird species. He soon set out to document every species of bird in North America. Nine volumes were published during his lifetime. C.L Bonaparte published a supplement in 1825-33, to complete what Wilson started, with prints by Titian Ramsey Peale and Alexander Rider. The octavo edition was published by William Jardine, with plates engraved by William Lizars, in 1832.
