  • DESCRIPTION: Highly colorful and vivid certificate acknowledging the service of a Union soldier in the Civil War. The US presidents up through Abraham Lincoln, the Capitol building, and twelve Union generals are depicted along with battle scenes and other significant events. This record is blank but provides a poignant reminder of those who served.<br><br> J.M. Vickroy Co. was founded in 1885 by James M. Vickroy in Terre Haute, Indiana. The firm was known for its production of decorative ledgers and certificates for veterans and fraternal organizations. Vickroy died in 1913. One of his daughters continued to run the business for nearly two decades before closing it down.
