  • DESCRIPTION: Moros y Cristianos (translating to Moors and Christians) is a long standing Spanish festival in which locals dress up as either Christian Spaniards or Moors (Muslims) and reenact battles from the period known as the Reconquista (8-15th century). The festivities attract great crowds every year. <br><br> Spain's global conquest following the discovery of the New World in 1492 led to the tradition being brought to its colonies and territories, particularly Spanish America and the Philippines. This etching shows the festival in Mexico. <br><br>
