• DESCRIPTION: Engraved by Solomon Savery. This finely executed portrait depicts the renowned English historian and cartographer John Speed. Originally issued as the frontispiece to The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine around 1631, it was also included in later combined editions of Speed’s atlases, which were frequently bound together.
