DESCRIPTION: Pierre Mortier's important map of the Carolinas that appeared in his ”Suite de Neptune Francois.” This map is based on the Thornton, Morden & Lea map first issued in 1685. Cumming observes that the two maps are identical to the smallest geographical detail and provide the most complete and up to date view of the Carolinas available at the end of the 17th Century. The original counties are named, and many estates and plantations are identified. Inset plan show the city and of Charleston which was founded in 1670.
