DESCRIPTION: "Hatch & Co. 218 Broadway, Herald Building, N. Y." (lithograph by). The Butterick's helped to revolutionize home sewing by making tissue patterns with different sizing gradations. In the early 1860's Butterick made sewing patterns for men & boys and then expanded into woman & girls patterns in the mid to late 1860's. Advertising Butterick patterns in The Ladies’ Quarterly Report of Broadway Fashions (founded in 1867) and the monthly Metropolitan (founded in 1868 and then merged in 1874 as The Delineator), helped to expand the popularity of this company. The scene is taken at the lake in Central Park. Ice skaters are shown in the background.
