  • DESCRIPTION: This is the first atlas map to name Wyoming in the title and to show its correct territorial configuration. This map first appeared in this, the1869 edition of "Colton's General Atlas." In the 1869 edition Wyoming had no county divisions, appearing in later editions. A large Dakota Territory has thirteen counties, all of which are alone side the Minnesota - Iowa border. The Northern Pacific Railroad is shown, as proposed, running across Dakota and Montana. The Union Pacific Railroad is under construction and is shown to the west as far as Bridger's Pass in central Wyoming. This map appeared in an 1869 edition of "Colton's General Atlas."
