  • DESCRIPTION: Duplessi-Bertaux inv & del. Duplessi-Bertaux aqua forti. Le Vacher, sculpt. Lafayette was a French hero in the American Revolutionary War. When he returned to France afterwards he became a deputy in the National Assembly, commandant of the Parisian National Guard and lieutenant general of the army. He would return to America some years after the French Revolution to visit, where he was welcomed lavishly in New York before journeying out to Mount Vernon for a reunion with George Washington, whom he had befriended during the American Revolution.
