This lithograph was likely given out as a thank you for making a contribution towards the construction of the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C. The original design proposed for the Monument can be seen in the backgrounds, but it was never built. A lack of funding brought construction to a roaring halt in 1854, nearly six years after its start, leaving the monument to sit fallow until 1877 when the design was altered to what we know today. A Revolutionary War battle scene can also be seen on the right, in the mid-ground.
