DESCRIPTION: Helen Wills was an American professional tennis player. She won 19 of the 24 Grand Slam single events she played in from 1922-1938, coming in second in 3 during that time frame. Her wins included French Open 4; Wimbledon 8; U.S. Open 7. In 1928-29 she won the French Open, Wimbledon and U.S. Open. She has been described as "the first American-born woman to achieve international celebrity as an athlete." <br><br>
