DESCRIPTION: The Battle of Waxhaws took place on May 29, 1780. It ended in victory for the British, whose forces were led by Colonel Tarleton, and came shortly after the Surrender of Charleston. The crushing blow dealt by Tarleton (who earned titles like Ban the Butcher for his brutal tactics) rallied patriots to the American cause.
