Good condition. At one time the map was accordion folded. The two outer folds on the right were cut and joined with linen backing. This was likely done to keep the map from splitting. Some damp staining in outer margins. Original outline hand coloring. LOCATION: New York City

Printed on two sheets, joined. Second state, in the upper left is a description of the slave rebellion of 1763. Soundings and some additional towns added. Inset: "Nieuwe Kaart van de Rivier Berbice en Suriname". The Berbice colony was settled in 1627 by the businessman Abraham van Peere, under the suzerainty of the Dutch West India Company. In 1712, Berbice was briefly occupied by the French, as part of the War of the Spanish Succession. Berbice consisted of 12 plantations owned by the society, 93 private plantations along the Berbice River, and 20 plantations along the Canje River. Maps
