  • DESCRIPTION: From Geo. H. Walker & Co.’s 1880 ‘Atlas of Barnstable County, Massachusetts.’ The Walker Company was formed in the late 1870s by George Hiram Walker and his brother Oscar. They were very prolific, publishing maps, atlases and bird's eye views of New England locales. This map depicts the village of Harwich in the town of Harwich, Massachusetts. It details the locations of privately owned houses and plots of land, as well as streets and town landmarks such as a church, school, and cemetery. An inset also details the port in the village, showing the roads to the wharfs, which are packed more densely with buildings and landowners. A set of three prints on the reverse side of the sheet provides views of some large residences and estates located in the area - handsome buildings and spacious lawns with carriages and pedestrians passing on the street.
