  • DESCRIPTION: This scene depicts a view of the intersection of Church Street and Murray Street in New York City on a moonlight night with firefighters fighting a fire in a burning building labeled James T. White & Co.. The scene shows a beehive of activity with a chief, speaking trumpet in hand, directs the firefighters. In the foreground are two modern steam pumpers, behind than are the old hand pumpers. City Hall is in the background.<br><br>

  • ADDITIONAL INFO: Both Nathaniel Currier and James Merritt Ives were volunteer firemen in New York City.<br><br>

  • CONDITION: Fair condition. Moderate mat line, 7/8" outside of image. Large tear / split down center. Very nice original hand coloring.
