  • DESCRIPTION: A fine decorative sea chart of the central Atlantic Ocean by one of the great Dutch cartographic families. The Dutch family of van Keulen produced and sold sea charts, pilot guides and nautical instruments for well over two centuries. Founded by Johannes (1654-1715) and later taken over by his son, Gerard (1678-1727). Johannes II took over in 1726 and after his death in 1788, by his two sons, Gerard Hulst and Cornelius Buys, who managed it into the 19th century. The firm reached its zenith in the period between 1700 and 1730.
