DESCRIPTION: The location is Eighty-ninth Street, under the Third Avenue El.<BR><BR> A final study drawing for the drypoint of the same title published in 1947. Martin Lewis drew all the time,and many of his prints have ten or more study drawings. Once the artist had worked out the composition, he would produce the final study before starting on the copper plate. There are a few changes from this image to the plate, however, those changes are noted with pencil marks on the drawing. The addition of two figures, a fire hydrant, and some lighted windows in the far wall.<BR><BR> The finished drawings are very rare. Most that still exist are in museums or large private collections.
ADDITIONAL INFO: Unsigned, typical for study drawings. Inscribed with artist's name and initialed P.L. (Patricia Lewis) on verso. Also on verso "LDL #47" LDL stands for Lucile Deming Lewis the artist's wife. At the time of his death all drawings were inventoried and given either an LDL number or an ML number.
CONDITION: Very good condition.
