DESCRIPTION: This rare view was originally engraved by Revere as a certificate for military officers who served in the battery. Only one period impression is known to exist and it belongs the the American Antiquarian Society. The Massachusetts Historical Society holds the original copper plate. Brigham notes that several re-strikes were produced of the complete certificate in the last quarter of the 19th century. Brigham also notes that in 1880 the plate was used to produced a frontispiece for "Paul Revere's Signal" by John Wilson. It is likely that Wilson had the printer mask out the certificate portion. It is our opinion that this impression was produced for Wilson's work.
