In 1934, Lynd Ward created the first fully illustrated version of the classic story.<br><br> This particular wood engraving is part of the signed edition, printed on tissue, which was not used for the book publication. The wood engravings for the book were all unsigned. <br><br> In this scene The Monster had hoped to find a place in society, in the home of a blind man named De Lacey. But when his children returned and found him inside, the son, Felix, attacked. The Monster escaped, his hopes dashed and desperation beginning to turn into rage.<br><br>
