A sandbagger is a type of sailboat that was popular in the 19th century primarily as a work vessel. Bags of sand were used as ballast. as clams or oysters were brought aboard, sand was dumped overboard. These vessels had an amazing amount of sail, often the jib and boom would double the length of the vessel.
