  • DESCRIPTION: The second state of two. In the second state, the plate was cut slightly in width removing about 1" of the image on the left. Lewis felt it strengthened the composition. <BR><BR> Location is noted by the street signs as 7th Avenue and 34th Street. <BR><BR> The copperplate is in the collection of the Detroit Institute of Arts. <BR> The child walking up the stairs is actually Martin Lewis son, Martin Lewis, Jr., standing next to his wife, Lucile. <br><br> An early depression era image, the edition was never completed. 67 impressions of the second state and 20 trial proofs, including first state impressions were printed by the artist.
