• DESCRIPTION: "My primary subject has always been light, either natural or man-made. Light shapes and affects my perception of objects and nature. My multi plate color etching, "Evening in Shanghai" is part of a series about my experiences in China in 2019. I was very fortunate to be included in a cultural exchange – with four other American printmakers—to exhibit our work, lecture and demonstrate our printmaking processes in Guangzhou, China.

The multi-plate etching process that I use is called "Color Separation". Yellow, red, blue and black copper plates are inked and printed sequentially, producing secondary colors as well as browns and grays. This results in rich, dense colors with a look that is unique to this medium. I work on the color as I see the proofs until I’ve achieved the look I desire. Each plate has a full range of values, from light to dark, and when overlapped the diversity of color is virtually limitless."
