DESCRIPTION: Painted by F. Wheatley. Engraved by Thos. Watson [Thomas Watson]. <br><br> The British Museum notes that this mezzotint is "said to be a portrait of Emma Hart." Also known as Emma, Lady Hamilton (1765-1815), she was an English actress, model and mistress to several wealthy British men, most notably Lord Nelson, whom she married in 1791. Prior to meeting Lord Nelson, she acquired fame as a model through painter George Romney (1734-1802), who produced many famous paintings with her assistance.
