Built in 1846, the Lawrence Machine Shop in Lawrence, Mass and produced heavy machinery such as locomotives and steam engines. They also and manufactured sewing machines, steam fire engines, and textile and paper-making machinery. The panic of 1857 found the company badly overextended and was forced to close.

The locomotive depicted is a 4-4-0 and was the type produced in the early to mid 1850’s.

On this particular impression the printer used a blue stone for the cab, tender and cow catcher..
