This is a plate from the standard edition of "The Holy Land, Syria, Idumea, Arabia, Egypt & Nubia", from drawings made on the spot by David Roberts R.A.. Lithographed by Louis Haghe of the firm Day & Haghe, one of the earliest lithograph publishers of England, these prints were published in six volume sets over a span of eight years (1841-49).

The well known statues of Memnon; sitting, as they have sat for ages, in grand and mournful solemnity... They are called by the natives Damy and Shamy... .D. Roberts.
