The Future is Not Carved.

  • ARTIST: Susan Pyzow

  • MEDIUM: Etching,

    DATE: 1919.

  • EDITION SIZE: Edition 50. Image size 9 x 12" (22.9 x 30.5 cm).

  • DESCRIPTION: "I derive a lot of my subject matter while walking around New York. The perpetual variety of visual (and other) stimuli at each step of the way and turn of the head to be considered, filtered out, focused in on, emphasized, exaggerated, or otherwise manipulated. This hard ground etching, “The Future is Not Carved”, displays my basic intrigue with the solidity and varied textures of the materials forming the foreground building, especially in juxtaposition to the progressively less solid or realized as seen in the receding buildings. The handling of the imagery, e.g., the skewed perspective and the progressively less articulated detail leads to an undescribed blank. The man, small within the large environment, metaphorically moves toward the unwritten and not carved in stone future."

  • ADDITIONAL INFO: Signed and titled in pencil, inscribed "1/50."
